Why The New Custom GPT Store Launching Next Week Is Actually a Big Deal
"It's just going to be flooded with shovelware!" True, true. But once you've developed a good garbage-spotting eye, there are some real opportunities out there to offer up some actual sparkling gold.
Imagine.
It’s early July 2008, and next week something big launches that is going to make savvy first-adopters billions and billions of dollars over time.
Well, that’s what happened when Apple’s The App Store first launched on July 10, 2008, with only an initial 500 applications available.
Next week, ChatGPT’s custom GPT store is finally launching.
The big difference? Anyone can make a custom GPT (I made a few in preparation for this article) because unlike the App Store which relies on building an actual app, custom GPTs—like ChatGPT—only require knowledge of natural language to create.
Right now the most popular GPTs on the store include a die-cut sticker maker where the creator of it will actually reply to your query and send you a link to take your order to create stickers for you (amazing merch opportunity), a laundry buddy that helps you totally triage your stain issues and the I very highly doubt licensed-by-The-Simpsons “Simpsonize Me” (but I ain’t no snitch!).
Oh. And the 17th-most popular custom GPT is simply something that explains memes to old people. So, cool.
What’s the comprehensive skinny on what you need to know to create a custom GPT either for fun, life or profit?
I got you.
