Rabbitholed #70: She Tried Van Life; Now She's Homeless
"A day in the life of a woman who decided to be a nomad, it backfired and now I'm homeless," the video series of the 33-year-old begins.
Today’s Rabbithole:
Remember that Jane’s Addiction album Nothing’s Shocking? I feel like that phrase is the one I hear the most in my head as I cruise the Internet looking for the most crucial, unforgettable stories out there to tell.
Because nowadays one of the most common storylines I see—on the daily—is one of deeply troubling instability increasingly happening to well-educated, mentally stable people who you would never expect to be loudly, suddenly championing their newfound homelessness online.
And truly, after a while: Nothing really does feel shocking anymore…at all.
Oh look. There’s another person on TikTok, newly homeless and broadcasting from their car and asking for the safest places to sleep as a woman. Oh, wait, wait—yes, there are three…no four more. All live. All asking for donations.
You know what one of the most brutal comments I read about this particular young woman who I’m writing about today’s story was on a popular six-page thread all about her?
This van-life girl has an OnlyFans page now. Man, this girl is addicted to struggle.
Brutal. Let’s unpack.
