Rabbitholed #51: The Living "Friends" Episode Starring the House-Husband and the Girl Boss
So no one told you life was gonna be this way. Your job's remote, you gloat, your love life's A-OK! It's like you're always stuck in viral gear...
It’s always such a relief to encounter something viral on the Internet that makes you feel sort of…good.
Thankfully, I spent almost the entire day away from social media yesterday researching this couple I’ll be sharing with you today so I missed most of the real-time Games of Ruthlessness online: people cheering the Queen’s death, people admonishing those for cheering the Queen’s death and people admonishing those for policing anyone’s rage toward colonization. (The big twist was when the ultimate colonizer—our supreme lord and Prime Day savior: Jeff Bezos himself—directly shamed a particularly shocking tweet, but let’s be 100% crystal-clear exactly why he did that.)
Yes, in the echo chamber of the Internet I entered into yesterday—like taking a hit of aggressively-corny 90’s-movie-themed acid—I was all about the deliciously small stakes of a young 24-year-old SoCal once-upon-a-time-high-school-sweethearts newlywed couple currently riding a beautiful viral wave of wholesomeness.
There is much to be learned from this couple, however. Not just about branding but about gamifying the smallest things in life to elicit joy and if you’re at all socially awkward or if you haven’t yet found peace with every single cellular iota of your being to withstand harsh Internet or IRL scrutiny, well…these two could teach a masterclass.
