Rabbitholed #49: The Secret to Life
What if this is actually the greatest rabbithole of all time?
Today’s Rabbithole:
Listen up, and listen good, and listen with the ability to hear the gratitude in everything I type because you are who is meant to hear this—not anyone else.
Thank you. Thank you so incredibly much.
You have no idea what you mean to me.
Thanks to your bolstering and support, I have managed to do something that I have dreamed of my whole life but have never dared do before: which is to build something—this Substack—and to keep building.
Today, the inspiration for writing this piece came to me as I was staring out onto the vast orchard pictured at the top of this post, on the outskirts of El Paso, Texas as a band of frenetic blue hummingbirds danced around my head like I’m fucking Cinderella. It was a feeling of gratitude. It was a feeling of desperately wanting to give something to you that is extremely personal to me that I hope turns out to be some sort of gift to you, as this insight has been to me.
See this past week I’ve been traveling—from South Carolina to Arizona to now the most southern part of Texas, which has provided a special kind of birds-eye view of America, letting me see just how small I am in the vast everything-ness of things. And reminding me that the Internet is about as far away from real life as anything ever could possibly be. The reason I love this feeling so much is because if you look at it just right—it makes you see how big everything is and how truly, we are surrounded by total creative possibility and unwritten potential at all times.
And there is just…so much.
Worlds to be imagined. People to meet (and reimagine if you like!). And inspiration just throbbing, pulsing around you. Everywhere.
I’m going to write to you today about what I believe is the No. 1 secret to life and personal-meaning-making that everyone always has access to if they can just believe in their absolute, unparalleled capacity to create hard enough.
Will you join me?
