Trolls are getting worse. While I’ve been trolled plenty of times, I also have an advantage that I rarely write about and will today: I know several of these trolls in real life because I’ve spent years in hacker communities where several of them thrive. Knowing and understanding them is critical to changing your relationship with the particular brand of cruelty they expertly unleash—and your vulnerability and naivete that they bank on.
